Prologue

(poem)
On the shortest and brightest night of the year
I saw this strange blue bird nesting
In the tree outside my bedroom window
Like he was guarding the egg of memory

Devil in the Orchard
04:18
|
|||
Yeah, you used to be bright
You were a sensitive child
You were always right
Like parasites
He examined your skin
He even covered your thoughts
With his fingerprints
It took him a while
To cover you with all the colors
Of the night, right?
And yes, you used to be loved
I used to touch you with gloves
Till you fell apart
He watched us from above
Still I’d rather be
A part of his family tree
Than your enemy
A make-believe
So when you’re gone
He can drag me down to his sea
But for now
I‘ll be around
to lay your head down
Safe and sound
I am honey
Your tired clown
But see: my shadow’s still warm
I’ll be around
And you used to be loud
You were terribly proud
Like a bodyguard
I knew you in and out
I followed you in the dark
Your head surrounded by sparks
Could you hear my heart?
The stopping of the clocks?
Well, the devil in the orchard saw enough
He screamed:
Wait, I’ll be around
To lay your head down
Safe and sound
I am honey
Your tired clown
But see: My shadow’s still warm
I‘ll be around, and
I’ll always be part of his show
And do all kinds of magic
All the kinds of magic you know
Wait, I’ll be around
to lay your head down
Safe and sound
I am honey
Your tired clown
But see: My shadow’s still warm
I’ll be around

Mother
03:19
|
|
||
Oh mother, please don’t worry
I still live in your breath
I saved some money
For the victims of the flood
Under your bed
You were right, I am a scientist
A brain in perfect shape
Yeah, I'm still circling round those black holes
That you left here by mistake
It’s not the sadness in your lies
Not the garden in your bright eyes
Not the angels or the past
Who claim it’s light that makes things last
Oh mother, please don’t worry
I still adore your hands
I saved some money for the weekend
God, I’m ready for your plans
I’m your lawyer, I’m your astronaut
Like Adrianne I left the ground
To swallow coins like your machines
Sure, I also love the sound
It’s not the sadness in your lies
Not the garden in your bright eyes
Not the angels or the past
Who claim it’s light that makes things last
As if shot by European snow
Lying awake I thought of you
I saved a coin for every hole
And l’m still waiting for God or ground control

More Clouds
02:47
|
|
||
I know you can’t bear the moon tonight
I send in clouds, let angels cry
Till rivers flow the corners of your mind
And if your mouth ever opened
I would swallow the whole ocean
But take your time
I hold you tight
As I read your thoughts from left to right
The lioness sleeps tonight
As the wind dilutes her blood
With dreams of afterlife
We still got time
To wake up and stop this lullaby
Your hands love the artificial light
They cast their shadows on the other side
Where my wishes and your memories collide
And if it’s true you still fear everything
I will swallow all the medicine for you
We’ll be fine
There are more clouds on the other side
Where the lioness sleeps tonight
As the wind dilutes her blood
With dreams of afterlife
We still got time
There are more clouds on the other side
More clouds on the other side

Blue Tales
02:38
|
|
||
Your father was out in the yard
To explain why he was breathing hard
Did he talk to himself?
No, you don’t wanna know
What he’s been through
You believe that the dawn in his eyes
Was a lie
His last song, it was about you
He prayed to the Lord
And to Emily, too
For a night without your tragedies
Without your blue tales
And that when your sanity fails
He’ll be there
(choir: I will be / a part of his / family / An enemy / enemy / enemy / When you’re gone / drag me down / to his sea / He’ll wait for me / wait for me / wait for me)
My last song will be about you
About the orchard at night and its enemies, too
Oh no, you still don’t wanna know
What we’ve been through
You were sure that the love in our eyes
Was a fire
(poem)
On the seventh night
He flew over from his nest
He said that people are sadder than you think
And none of them ever grow up

Suzanne
04:08
|
|
||
You work for the city
I work for the night
But you’re probably right
I’ve got an awful lot to learn
Cause I’m a terrible liar
The cloud’s breath was heavy
But my bloodstream was steady
As we opened our eyes
We discovered our bodies
And everything in our sight
So there was someone who took care of me
As I stepped out of your waters
For a while
I was full of private energy
There were people who believed me
And so did I
Suzanne
Don’t worry
You were right
I wanted a break
Cause I was afraid of the powers of fate
You calmed me down with your mirror-smiles
But you’re a terrible liar
But when the sky opened
Our mirror was broken
But we were alive
We changed our names a thousand times
But kept that smile
You were still the one who took care of me
As I stepped out of your waters
For a while
I was full of private energy
There were people who believed me
And so did I
Suzanne
Don’t worry
You were right

Saltwater
03:07
|
|
||
I was yours, a tired ocean
I was from another past
I was hiding in the middle
Of a war that didn’t last
Like an invisible guest
I’m breathing in, I’m sitting still
I am not what you expected
Like saltwater on a hill
And like saltwater I ask for more
I drown the hill
To feed the shore
Are you okay?
I thought of you everyday
No, I want you to stay
I was yours, a nervous ghost
I was from another class
You were hiding
From what I thought that you deserve
Cause all those slow and sacred thoughts
They all had to do with me
I talked a lot and when I stopped
You walked straight into the sea
Cause saltwater, it asks for more
I drown the hill
To feed the shore
Are you okay?
I thought of you everyday
Oh, but oceans do not know
When it’s time to withdraw
Only a moon could tell
I saw your eyes behind its hills

Ghost's Fingers
04:15
|
|
||
Oh, please hold the line
For a little while
And I will tell you 'bout a time
The night was yours cause you were mine
A holy ghost who drove her fingers down your spine
Oh, I count to nine
Like last time
We’ll meet where this body ends
I’ll close your eyes and count again
Have you ever met a ghost hiding his hands?
I’m not afraid of your silence
Nor your crimson red shyness
No, I’m not givin’ in
Like a moon, like your daughter
Like American Water
I‘ll live on under your skin
For one, two, nine
Oh, your golden touch, it’s not enough
I didn’t call to make you cry
There’s a refuge for your lies
It’s the place where animals go when they die
Oh, but hold the line
Caroline
I swear there’s nothing I can do
To make this easier for you
Or have you ever met a ghost who wouldn’t try?
I’m not afraid of your shyness
Nor your crimson red silence
No, I’m not givin‘ in
Like a moon, like your daughter
Like American Water
I’ll live on under your skin
I’m sorry, I messed it up
Please let me start again

Carry It All
02:24
|
|
||
Our drive home was gray
We didn’t talk for hours
All your signs came too late
The milk was already sour
But hey, you don’t have to wait for me
I’ll carry it all
Look, our daughter’s hands shaped the clay
I watched her grow from my tower
She came over today
And stayed for two of three hours
So hey, you don’t have to wait for me
I’ll carry it all

Taming the Shrew
04:34
|
|
||
I had my arms full of candy & medicine
I just wanted to make sure you’re alright
My mouth: a swimming pool filled with gasoline
I answered all your tired thoughts with a smile
As golden lights turned the skin around your shoulder blades
Into a landscape so beautifully wild
I saw rivers with the blood of pretty enemies
They all seeped somewhere between your eyes
Those golden landscapes, they love the night
I can’t tell you what it’s like
To be tired of a life
That you thought to be a painless flight
We watched the world with big eyes, we’ve been everywhere
But I started to stay the same
As those Spanish guitars inhaled foreign airs
I already couldn’t recall your name
Cause my mind ran in circles, my blood was loud
You felt the same beat but saw different signs
We thought I knew every part of you in and out
Just please pretend I changed my mind
Cause golden landscapes love the night
I’ll never tell you what it’s like
To be tired of a life
That you thought to be a painless flight
No, I’m alright
I still remember the times past the blues
When I slept through the nights
When I see you next time I’ll be a silhouette
I’ll try to cover your lines with mine
Oh, I swear I’ll use the whole alphabet
Except for b and u and c and y
I’ll have my mouth full of candy and medicine
And I’m hiding my face from the sun
I’ll be the the same nervous ghost I’ve always been
But my skin seems golden, now you’re gone
|
||||
11. |
|
|||
Now there’s a crack
In everything we believed
Wake up
Your dreams are filled with parasites
I know your skin
It‘s mirrored from the inside
Come out
Look, his fingerprints have stunned the night
He’ll touch you with the old gloves that were mine
I’m sorry, I’ve told him all
Just don’t let him touch your scars
I mistook your dark for mine
Your empty eyes for paradise
Oh, all the colors of the night
As if the orchard was on fire
Look, there‘s a path down to the beach
Covered with bones and jewelry
And old shadows made of love
I turn my back, I saw enough
